The top five genres of jazz today are Blues, Swing, Dixieland, Bebop, and Free Jazz. We can trace the history of jazz music back to the first African American Musicianship in the south side. It grew in communities with no one person creating it. Today jazz is way more complex and vibrant than it was when it became mainstream. The artists have improvised every instrument in jazz to create a free sense of rhythmic phrasing. The jazz that we listen to today is filled with improvisations, while the earlier artists used to focus on the written melodies only. It has given rise to new artists, experimenting with jazz, and giving it a new identity in the modern age music. Chicago is such a band, they have blended rock and roll, horns and classical music and jazz. Their sound has bridged many divides and they’re even performing at venues such as the Grand Ole Opry House which has traditionally been a country venue. If you’re interested in watching Chicago live, take a look at the Opry schedule for an upcoming performance.
